Things that Start with S

My Sunday was filled with some Space Age pinning, a first-ever-crazy-intense spin class at SoulCycle, and a post-class stroll around Union Square that ended with book browsing at the Strand.

The Strand is a classic New York institution, and its nice to see that some New Yorkers (and visiting tourists) are still shopping for actual books. I'm anti e-books. Call me old-fashioned, but I prefer to read the written word on paper. Check out The Argument for Books by Jonathan Evison, I just spotted a quote from this short essay on Julia's blog, and it is perfect.  I own over 500+ books myself, which I organize my subject on bookcases and shelves that fill my Brooklyn apartment.

I grabbed a few books off the $1 and $2 carts at the Strand to add to my collection....

I just had to buy all 6 of these vintage (copyright 1913 and 1914) "Masterpieces in Colour" art books, each highlighting a different painter from the 14th to 19th centuries. They make such a perfect ($12) set!

This "Giftwraps by Artists: English Floral Patterns" filled with prints by 18th century illustrator, William Kilbum, was another amazing find...

I love these wrapping paper prints, but I won't be tearing these out to use for gifts any time soon.
They're too pretty to use!

And just to add to my collection of classics, I picked up Catch-22 for $1. I guess I missed this on the required high school reading list, because I've actually never read it. I love that this copy did belong to a student though. Look at his notes!...

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
